About the author

Hi, I’m Anou 🙂

Since my childhood I have had a huge enthusiasm for the circus. Whether it was putting on little shows in the children’s room (Zirkus Quatschmatsch was legendary), practising tricks on the stair railings or in the playground, or making Barbies do tricks on self-made aerial silks: I was unstoppable.

Circus training

At the age of 10, I started training with the Maccaroni children’s and youth circus in Karlsruhe. My great love was the aerial silk, but over time I also discovered other circus disciplines. I trained in aerial hoop, contact juggling and switched from aerial silks to aerial rope (but aerial silks will always be my first love). You’ll often find me not only in the air, but also upside down on the floor doing a handstand.

In the last few years, it has also become my passion to do partner acrobatics, which I enjoy practising both as a base and as a flyer.

Teaching circus

At the age of 14, I passed on my circus knowledge to children for the first time and saw a circus holiday project from the instructor’s perspective. I enjoyed it so much that I really wanted to keep doing it, and from then on I was involved in many holiday projects and soon also in regular courses and many other activities as an instructor. I completed the circus youth instructor training, specialising in aerial arts and balance.

After my voluntary social year

After school, I did a voluntary social year at the Maccaroni children’s and youth circus and gained a lot more experience as an instructor. I now knew for sure: I wanted to stay in the circus forever.

Before studying cultural and media education, I completed a fitness trainer C licence.

During my studies, I chose to specialise in art, film and digital media. I particularly appreciated the freedom to try out lots of things and the support I received in finding my own artistic language.

I also furthered my knowledge as a aerial silks teacher with the Aerial Silk Teacher Training from Aerial Physique.

Circus all over Germany

During my studies I gave classes at the Aerial Loft and gained a lot of new experience as an aerial arts teacher with adults.

This work laid the foundation for working on a freelance basis in other circuses in Germany.

Getting to know new circuses for children and young people felt like travelling to a new country.

New inspiring people, different training structures, every circus has its very own way of getting children and young people excited about circus and encouraging them to develop their skills.

... Circus Cards!

I started collecting and drawing tricks in order to structure them for myself and create materials for teaching. Through my work in the various circuses, I realised that drawn collections of tricks can also be a help for others – and so I developed the idea for Circus Cards.

I took the first photos in the summer of 2022 and had drawn all 170 tricks for solo trapeze and duo trapeze by the beginning of 2024.

My circus network was very helpful, as the original photos were taken in collaboration with 30 circus artists.

Work Work Work

From January 2024 to July 2024, I dedicated myself to finalising the project. This included:

  • Assigning difficulty levels in collaboration with other trapeze teachers
  • Printing cards
  • Designing the logo
  • Creating the website
  • Creating social media content
  • Creating flyers
    and many other things

The first generation of Circus Cards has been available here since August 2024 :))))

And currently?

I’m currently at the Scuola di Circo Flic in Turin, Italy, for one year (2024/25). There I have lessons in my discipline, the aerial rope, as well as in other subjects such as dance, acrobatics, theatre, handstands, etc.

I am continuing my education both as a circus artist and as a circus teacher.

Immediately after the release of the first generation of Circus Cards, I started researching tricks in the aerial hoop. I am currently working on this during my school year in Italy.

The aerial hoop cards are expected to be released in August 2025.

And afterwards?

After circus school I will work (again) as a circus teacher, do performances and…

Of course I will put a lot of time, love and energy into the further development of Circus Cards!

I would definitely like to cover many more circus disciplines.

Please let me know what you would like to see!
